About Us

The Kind Cyclist started in Vail Village in 1992 as a seasonal summer bike shop. It was founded on the basic principle of being "kind" to customers and dispensing with the elitist cycling attitude that is unfortunately found at many bike shops. This doesn't mean that we don't carry highend racing bikes. It just means that whether you're buying a $12,000 carbon racing bike, or a $400 hybrid, you'll be treated right, all your needs met and all of your questions answered.

Over time the business has grown and the store is now located in Edwards' Riverwalk. By 2005, The Kind had become a ski shop in the winter months. In 2006 Jamie and Kelly Malin decided that a part-time life in Colorado was not enough for them, so they quit the corporate world, bought The Kind and moved out to Colorado full time. Now called The Kind Bikes and Skis, the shop is a full service bike and ski shop, providing rentals, repair and retail for all of your snow sport and cycling needs.

Both Jamie and Kelly specialize in bike fit. It's something they are passionate about and have invested a lot of time in education and practical application. They do not believe in the old school method of having someone stand over a bike and then take it for a spin to determine if the bike fits. Bike fit is a much more involved process than that. They also specialize in fitting people with physiological issues to a bike. Just because you may have back or neck issues, doesn't mean you can't ride a bike; it just means that the bike needs to be set up to address your particular need.

We look forward to seeing you in our shop at Edwards' Riverwalk!
